Are there any plans to enable WebMO to display isosurfaces (e.g., for molecular orbitals) in the near future? This is a very powerful feature that would greatly enhance the utility of the WebMO package.

We are currently working on this feature and we have completed an internal version that implements these features. However, due to complex nature of the task and the inherent performance limitations of Java, this feature may require the installation of a seperate native application on the client-side. For example, clicking the "View" button next to the MO would cause a seperate application to be spawned and display then display the MO.

I don't suppose there are plans to produce Mac and Unix versions of the client-side application ?

Right now, there are no plans to create a Mac or Unix version of the MOViewer application. The graphics library (VTK) used by MOViewer is available for PC and Unix, but not Macs. Thus, I may make a Unix port sometime in the future, but a Mac port would be a lot of work.

If you are a little willing to work a little, MOViewer might run under WINE (www.winehq.com). WINE is an outstanding freely available program which can run Win apps under Unix.

However, the precompiled binaries do not support OpenGL. Thus you must recompile the source, with OpenGL support and the appropriate OpenGL libraries on your Linux box. I don't have OpenGL libraries for my Linux box, and thus I couldn't try this out; if you can get it to work, I would love to hear it!

In MOViewer, is there a way to display and change the scale of the isosurfaces ?

Just an update: MOViewer is now implemented in Java, and works on Windows, Linux (and some UNIX varients supporting Java3D) and OS X.
