Hello, we have had a strange problem with our WebMo 6.1.010p running on Fedora 4. We are using WebMo for an undergraduate course. Yesterday in the process of updating our class list (deleting old users and creating new users), the software stopped functioning and instead the login page showed an invalid filehandle errorLog.

After several hours of researching the nature of the error, we discovered that it was not our server but the WebMo software itself. Apparently from what we theorize, is that in /home/webmo, the directory webmo was missing along with all the user data and accounts. We were able to recreate a similar folder using the setup procedures to bring back the WebMo interface and admin account.

We are still not sure how all this could happen by itself. The only way to really determine that is to look a log of all the activity of WebMo prior to this event.

Does anyone know if WebMo keeps a log of all the events, (login, job submission...) and if so where would it be kept?

Thanks for your help.

I have never observed or heard this particular error reported before. However, deleting that particular directory would certainly be consistent with the symptoms that you describe!

WebMO does not keep a log of all events (at least by default), but does keep an error log. The file is called 'errors', but (unfortunately) is stored in the very directory that seems to have been deleted.
