WebMO Cloud
What is WebMO Cloud?
WebMO Cloud is a fully functional instance of WebMO running in the cloud that is customized for your use and institution. WebMO Cloud is a subscription-based service that provides the hardware and software to run state-of-the-art computational chemistry jobs from within a web browser.

For WebMO Cloud subscriptions, please see Subscribe to WebMO Cloud.
Why Use WebMO Cloud?
If you want to simply log in and run jobs, then WebMO Cloud is for you! WebMO Cloud eliminates the need to obtain and configure computing resources, install computational engines and WebMO, and locate adequate technical support resources to maintain your system.
WebMO Cloud allows you to focus on chemistry teaching and research, rather than being concerned with details of the underlying hardware and software technology.
WebMO Cloud Features
WebMO Cloud is a pre-configured implementation of WebMO Enterprise and contains the user features of WebMO Pro and Enterprise.
It includes all the features that are useful for running computational chemistry jobs in an educational or research setting:
- Build molecules (3-D editor, import structure file, import by name).
- Run jobs (energy, geometry optimization, vibrational frequencies, coordinate scanning, molecular orbitals, and many more) using pre-installed engines (Gamess, Mopac, NWChem, Orca - separate license required, PSI4, Quantum Espresso, Tinker, and XTB).
- View results (tables, 3-D images, and spectra) from within your web browser.
- Group students by course and/or research mentor to allow for easy management.

WebMO Cloud Service Levels and Cost
WebMO Cloud offers various tiers of service, depending on your intended usage. They differ by the amount of resources that may be allocated to run jobs:
| Tier | Use Case | Cores | Disk Storage (GB) | Job Time Limit (min) | Max Cores / Job | Max Memory / Job (GB) | Max Groups | Python Support | Cost per Month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | Small Intro Courses | 1 | 5 | 5 | 1 | 8 | 2 | no | $25 |
| 1 | Large Intro Courses | 2 | 20 | 30 | 1 | 8 | 5 | no | $50 |
| 2 | Upper-Level Courses | 4 | 50 | 120 | 2 | 16 | 10 | yes | $100 |
| 3 | Research | 8 | 200 | 240 | 4 | 32 | 20 | yes | coming soon |
30-Day Risk-Free Trial. All new subscriptions come with a 30-day free trial. The first 30-days are free. Cancelling a subscription in the first 30-days results in no charge.
Subscription Details. WebMO Cloud subscriptions are available on an annual or quarterly basis. Subscriptions may be cancelled anytime prior to their automatic renewal, after which service will continue until the subscribed period expires.

WebMO Cloud Value
A WebMO Cloud subscription includes ALL expenses associated with installing and maintaining a WebMO computational chemistry server: computers, operating system setup, computational engine installation, WebMO license, technical expertise, hardware and software maintenance, and disk storage. Subscription pricing also provides straightforward budgeting for computational chemistry by a department, grant, or institution by spreading expenses evenly over time.
Is the subscription price worth it? The separate monthly costs of a Tier 2 subscription would be: $120 for hardware ($30/CPU*month), $100 for software ($1200/year for WebMO upgrades), $150 for technical expertise (3 hours per month at $100K/year for a software engineer), $10 for electricity (Gemini AI estimate), and $10 for building space (Gemini AI estimate). Thus, the total expense for a Tier 2 implementation would be ~$390/month.
An annual Tier 2 subscription to WebMO Cloud is $100/month, which is ~25% of the $390/month separate cost. WebMO purchases computing service in bulk, scales computing usage with demand, and shares technical expertise across multiple instances, so we can pass these savings onto our subscribers.
